Lithuanian Blue Flag Beaches
Lithuania has many beautiful beaches for you to choose from-both on the Baltic coastline and by numerous lakes and rivers.
A very important detail that Lithuania can definitely be proud of is the 6 white sand beaches on the Baltic coastline that have been awarded with a Blue Flag:
- Nida beach (Neringa municipality) - located on the Curonian Spit, which is a narrow, 97km long peninsula with Baltic Sea shoring it in the west and the Curonian Bay in the east. Its landscape is composed of sand dunes, rare greenery, linden and pine trees growing in sandy soil. The settlements of the Curonian Spit - Nida, Preila, Pervalka, Juodkrante. From 1991, 52 kilometres of the Curonian Spit make the National Park. At the end of 2000, UNESCO as the part of heritance of the world honored the landscape of the Curonian Spit.
- Juodkrante beach (Neringa municipality) - The Juodkrante beach is located in the Curonian Spit. Its landscape is composed of sand dunes, rare greenery, linden and pine trees growing in sandy soil, just like in Nida beach.
- Smiltyne I beach (Klaipeda Town municipality) - located in the Curonian Spit.
- I Melnrage beach (Klaipeda Town municipality) - located in the 3rd biggest city in Lithuania-Klaipeda.
- II Melnrage beach (Klaipeda Town municipality) - located in the 3rd biggest city in Lithuania-Klaipeda.
- Botanical park beach (Palanga Town municipality)-Palanga is the biggest health promoting resort in Lithuania. Vacationers come here to escape their daily urbanized routines and gain strength from natural resources: the sun, sea water and fresh pine-forests’ air. Dry and warm pine-forests' air is perfect for those who suffer from bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis or aesthetic neurosis.
The Blue Flag Programme in Lithuania is run by a non governmental environmental organisation Lithuanian Green Movement which is an active member of Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
